Domination of Black for bass clarinet, tenor saxophone, viola, cello, piano and percussion

Charon for clarinet (doubling bass clarinet), violin, and cello

Domination of Black and Charon immerse listeners in two intense sonic landscapes.

Domination of Black, which takes its title from a poem by Wallace Stevens, opens with a low, resonant chord progression in the piano that is stated 6 times over the course of the piece. Each time the progression creeps higher and higher while the surrounding instruments form a floating halo of resonance.

Charon likewise presents a dramatic yet methodical transformation in which an eerie unison pattern expands and intensifies.
